Roof extension to a converted 1980's light industrial unit

Client: Private Developer
Planning Consultant: DGW Planning
Structural Engineer: Price & Myers
Contractor: Metrix Commercial Interiors Ltd
Stage: Complete

We were asked to develop a scheme for a contemporary roof extension to a series of 1980’s light industrial units in Hammersmith. With existing residential units below, the brief required the careful consideration of current and future users alongside planning constraints.

Our response to the existing 80’s roof-scape and facades was to contrast the busy palette of existing materials and fenestration with a refined extension of almost uniform materials and details. Hence the cladding is either glazing or back painted glass, all minimally framed, the aim being to create a slick, calm exterior, nestling in the existing roof-tops.
